I’ll be honest, I’m biased on this one because I loooove Mhairi McFarlane’s writing. Her characters are so beautifully flawed and searching. This one is about a group of four friends who experience a tragedy in the early part of the book. After that, it turns out that there were some things that had gone…unsaid, let’s say, between the group.
I always feel like I want to hang out with McFarlane’s characters, not because they are so cool, but because they are so down-to-earth. This book is no exception. Plus, it has a cranky cat in it, and that’s generally a win.
At its heart, this is an exploration of grief in various forms, but it’s also insight into watching people grow and learn each other, for better and worse.
