I’ve read the entire ACOTAR* series, and I loved it, so I wanted to read Throne of Glass. It was…okay. It’s a good story, and the characters are compelling, but the writing just didn’t draw me in. Essentially, the main character is an assassin who has been put in a dreadful jail/work camp situation. She gets a chance to get out: if she wins a battle between a whole bunch of tough opponents, she will then become the king’s assassin. The other option is going back to that jail where she wouldn’t last much longer. Besides the opponents to defeat in various matches, there is also something odd afoot at the castle where they’re all staying. I will add, the general bleakness and goriness didn’t help things for me, and though the main character is great, it’s certainly no uplifting read. I’m going to continue the series and see if it picks up for me; many people have mentioned that was the case for them. #bookstagram #sarahjmaas #throneofglass *A Court of Thorns and Roses
